Periodontics

Bellevue Implant Dentistry - Bellevue Dental Implants - Irving I. Cohen, DDS, PS

A periodontist is a specialist in the care of the foundation tissues that support the teeth.  Teeth are held in place by healthy bone and the gum that covers it.  More teeth are lost to diseases of the periodontal structures than by cavities.  Our mission is to make sure that your smile is never compromised from these issues.   Sometimes teeth are lost due to cavities, breakage or coming in too late for us to save.  We can replace the missing foundation with dental implants.  Recession often compromises smile cosmetics, and we have solutions for this, too.

No matter if you have a problem on one tooth or whether the situation needs the coordination of several dental specialists, we promise to provide you with exceptional care as we enhance the natural beauty and health of your smile. Below are just some of the many procedures and services we regularly provide to our patients – with a gentle touch, and stunning results. Your smile is our first priority, and we’ll give you something to smile about.

Some common issues:

  • Moderate/advanced gum (periodontal)disease – If you have bleeding or swollen gums, it is fairly certain some care will be needed.  Early problems can be treated with very little effort, the longer the problem is put off, the more likely more advanced care will be needed.

  • Gum recession – Gum recession is most common when the local anatomy doesn't provide enough protection against the rough toothbrushing.  Or, heavy handed oral hygiene acts like surgery to remove the protective tissue you were born with.  This is a common fix.
  • Crown lengthening – One of the very first surgical processes ever used, this technique removes just a bit of gum/bone so that your general dentist can repair a tooth that has broken (or is decayed) too far underneath the gum.  This technique has saved countless teeth that years ago were considered, "non-restorable".
  • Ridge augmentation/ preservation – When a tooth is extracted and no effort is made, the bone left behind can shrink and rob us of options to put things normal.  We routinely place bone grafts to prevent or restore lost bone dimension needed for a great result.
